OVERVIEW
This was where everything started. During my senior year at ASU, I co-designed and animated the university's first-ever drone show — a 600-drone performance that lit up the night sky for over 50,000 spectators.
The show was built around the concept of "electrifying" the ASU marching band as they performed Elton John classics live, with the drone figures animating in sync overhead.
Working within a one-month timeline, I created 6 of the 8 figures that flew that night — each one designed to be visually striking while remaining technically feasible for physical drone flight patterns.
This project taught me the fundamental difference between designing 3D assets for screens and designing for drones in real physical space: gravity, airspace, LED grid constraints, and audience sightlines all shape every creative decision.
It was the largest university drone show in the US at the time — and the project that set the direction for everything that followed.
