Cover research & aesthetic study
Conducted an in-depth review of existing Nature covers to identify the visual code of accepted submissions — composition, hierarchy, and legibility at small scale.
Point cloud → 3D render
Imported the scientific dataset into Blender and developed a high-resolution render emphasizing motion, structure, and the research team's color palette.
Editorial refinement in Photoshop
Selective color highlights and composition adjustments to create a minimalist, cover-level image with strong visual hierarchy and energy.
OVERVIEW
While working as a research assistant at ASU's Mediated X Lab, I was commissioned to design a magazine cover submission for Nature — one of the world's most recognized scientific journals. The brief: take a raw scientific point cloud dataset and translate it into a cover-worthy 3D render.
My role was strictly visual and artistic — interpreting the data's structure, motion, and color palette as defined by the research team, and rendering it in a way that would hold up to Nature's rigorous editorial standards. I had no involvement in the scientific content itself.
